Welcome to our new Sports newsletter, which aims to keep everybody up to date with the latest news and achievements from the Norfolk Primary Sports School of the Year 2017!
Firstly, to a historic achievement from last week. On Wednesday our Y5/6 Sportshall Athletics team qualified for the County Finals, and then on Friday won Gold in the County Finals! This is the first time Woodlands have achieved this in the Norfolk School Games in any Sport. The team spirit and determination shown by the 20 boys and girls was incredible – well done all! You can take a look at www.norfolkschoolgames.co.uk for a report and photographs.
Football fixtures are now being played. The U11 Girls have two wins and a draw in the league so far after beating Ormesby 5-2 last week. They have Hillside at home today in their next game. The U11 boys recently finished as the 3rd best team in Norfolk and go to Martham in the 2nd round of the cup on Wednesday. They beat Homefield 4-1 last week in the league. The U10 boys will travel to Hillside tomorrow.
Congratulations to our Year 2 and Year 4 Gymnastics teams, both finishing 3rd in the East Norfolk competition. All children worked extremely hard on their routines and were complimented by the judge for their routines.
We continue to compete in the Norfolk Junior Basketball League on Saturdays once a month and our standard of play keeps on improving. We are matching up increasingly well with the fully fledged Basketball clubs that we are against, often playing against children many years older. Year 5 and 6 can join the Basketball club on Fridays after school.
Congratulations to all 40 Cross Country runners in our recent competition, 13 of whom qualified to represent East Norfolk in the Norfolk School Games Finals in Holt this month. Furthermore, 11 children qualified for the East Norfolk Swimming team as Woodlands won the inter-schools gala for the 19th time in the last 21 years!
Woodlands’ Tag Rugby team won the East Norfolk event after months of hard work with Mr Brooks. As a result they competed in a very wet and very muddy County Finals last month! Well done to the Rugby team!
Sports clubs at Woodlands continue to flourish, with particular excitement around our Y6 lunchtime Quidditch club and our Y4 after school Flag American Football club. Children are always encouraged to try some of the many available clubs. A special mention should go to Luca in 3R for becoming the first child to be awarded their platinum Cross Country certificate for 200 lunchtime laps.
Children need just 25 laps for their bronze award and new children are always welcome.
The Sports School of the Year hoodies are proving very popular. There is still time to put in an order – this is a one-time only opportunity with the deadline for orders on Friday 17 March. Spare order forms can be picked up from the office.
Finally, thank you to all of you for supporting the children in their sport. Please continue to encourage each and every child to attend the sports clubs and activities on offer so we can continue to ensure that they all have a healthy and enjoyable start in life.
