Woodlands triumphed on penalties in the final of a enjoyable tournament hosted by Caister Junior.
A team of 4 girls and 5 boys travelled to Caister Junior on Tuesday to participate in this Premier Sport tournament. The mixed format of the competition allowed for the girls to show off their abilities, and the team demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and teamwork throughout.
Woodlands had 3 group games - the first of which was a tough encounter with a good Martham side. The game finished 1-0 to Woodlands with Christian scoring a thunderbolt from range.
The second group game ended Woodlands 3-0 North Denes, Christian bagging a hat-trick. With Christian sub in the 3rd game and all 4 girls (Fraia, Olivia, Ellie-Jade and Isla) playing, Woodlands managed a 2-0 win against Stradbroke with goals from Samuel and Isla.
All of this meant Woodlands would top the group and play hosts Caister in the semi-finals. The game saw Woodlands on top but unable to score in the short format, so the 0-0 draw meant penalties. Jay saved all 3 of Caister's penalties, while Christian, Lucas and Samuel all scored to win the shootout.
The final against Herman followed the same pattern, this time Ashton would score the winning penalty to seal the game. Captain Ellie-Jade lifted the trophy for the team in celebration! Well done to all!
